HARVEST 2022

The beginning of the growing season of the vines located on the slopes of the
Pangeon Mountain took place in early – mid April, a few days later than normal.
Then, during spring and until June the weather was very cool, with plenty of rain,
which ensured the right amount of water for the growth of the vine, without disease
development.
The mild weather continued until the end of June, followed by a fairly warm July
with satisfactory rainfall. The ripening of the grapes finally began at the end of July.
The harvest began on 17th of August with the Sauvignon blanc variety, continued
with Vidiano and Semillon and ended on 26th of September with the Assyrtiko
variety. The ripening of the white grapes, was not homogenous due to the particular
weather conditions. Several samplings and continuous tastings of the grapes were
needed to determine the harvest of each variety. So, the white wines of 2022 are
very aromatic due to the relatively low temperatures during the harvest period, with
good structure and balanced acidity.
The harvest of the red varieties began with the harvest of Pinot Noir on 18
th of August and continued on 5th of September with the harvest of Merlot variety. This
was followed by the harvest of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Agiorgitiko varieties,
which also developed smoothly and was completed on 22nd of September. The red
wines that will be produced are expected to be aromatic, fruity, with intense color
and high presence of phenolic ingredient’s, velvety feeling and excellent structure,
which will give them a great potential for ageing.
In general, the harvest of 2022 will give us high quality wines, which will be
characterized by rich, aromatic and velvety taste, due to the ripening conditions of
the grapes and the low acreage yield. The quantity is expected to be less than in 2021. Thus, 2022 will be characterized as a good year for the wines of the area of Pangeon, despite the difficult weather conditions that prevailed in July and August.
This is a result of proper management of the vines during this period and the
consecutive harvests in the same block and the same variety, depending on the
ripeness of the grapes. It is the year of the viticulturist and the winemaker, at the
same time.
